Embark on an unforgettable journey with our Machu Picchu by train tour, where you’ll explore five of Peru’s most iconic destinations. This adventure includes visits to four key Inca ruins in the Sacred Valley and, of course, the awe-inspiring Machu Picchu.
The Inca Empire flourished thanks to the Sacred Valley, surrounded by three significant agricultural cities: Chinchero, Pisac, and Ollantaytambo. This fertile valley, traversed by the Urubamba River and framed by snow-capped mountains, was the empire’s primary food source.
On the route to Machu Picchu by train, you’ll also encounter two remarkable Inca innovations. First, the Salineras de Maras—ancient salt mines that produced vast quantities of salt. Second, Moray—a fascinating archaeological site featuring concentric rings resembling steps, which provided a unique temperature differential ideal for crop adaptation.
Following your exploration of the Sacred Valley, you’ll journey to Machu Picchu, where you’ll spend a full day immersing yourself in its wonders before returning to Cusco by train.

Here, you’ll visit a local handicraft shop, the Chinchero archaeological center, and the main square, spending approximately 1.5 hours exploring. Next, we’ll visit Moray, an intriguing site known for its enormous circular terraces used by the Incas to adapt crops to various environments through a 12°C temperature difference.
Afterward, we’ll tour the salt mines, another Inca innovation that facilitated their trade and prosperity. Enjoy a delicious buffet lunch in the Urubamba Valley, then proceed to Ollantaytambo. Here, you’ll discover the impressive Temple of the Sun, a key defensive structure during the Inca civil war. This visit will last about an hour.
Following this, we’ll board the train to Aguas Calientes. Upon arrival, our assistant will greet you and guide you to your hostel. In the evening, meet at the main square for dinner and a briefing about the next day’s adventures. After dinner, you’ll have free time to explore the city, enjoy a drink, visit the hot springs, or shop for local crafts.
